Characterization of 400 Volt High Impedance Fault With Current and Magnetic Field Measurements

Electrical faults, which can occur at all voltage levels in an electricity supply system, are a health and safety risk. Multi-branch distribution networks represent significant ongoing challenge for fault detection, with the greatest being high impedance (HIF) detection. To date, research has focused on higher levels, monitoring sensors have traditionally only been installed limited locations within networks. The main contributions of this paper to characterize involving tree branch experimentally verify feasibility giant magneto-resistive (GMR) sensors, located distant from overhead lines, In purpose-built 400 V physical simulation test facility, we collected current magnetic field data during HIF branch. We identified new characteristics early stages type, persist reasonable length time but observable when suitable signal processing techniques applied. New detection schemes will, therefore, need be developed detect such faults. GMR were found observing HIF, validating their potential use
